Advanced Diploma in Traffic and Metropolitan Policing

The Advanced Diploma in Traffic and Metropolitan Policing is a professional qualification that enables students who have successfully completed either a) a Diploma in Metropolitan and Traffic Policing (NQF Level 6) or b) an equivalent NQF Level 6 qualification in a related field to advance their studies in law enforcement. The Advanced Diploma in Traffic and Metropolitan Policing is a NQF Level 7 qualification consisting of 120 credits. The purpose of this qualification is to bridge the gap between existing training and the evolving demands placed on law enforcement officers, particularly within traffic and metropolitan policing environments. The qualification aims to develop students’ competencies through the integration of knowledge in traffic and metropolitan policing, traffic science, civil liability, and foundational research principles. This qualification supports both new and experienced officers in expanding their expertise and strengthening their ability to serve effectively in supervisory and leadership roles. The Advanced Diploma in Traffic and Metropolitan Policing will equip students with a sound understanding of legal, ethical, and practical considerations relevant to their profession. Graduates will be empowered to apply informed decision-making, demonstrate accountability in operational contexts, and effectively manage diverse responsibilities within metropolitan and traffic policing sectors.

This qualification is particularly suited to:

• Graduates of the Diploma in Metropolitan and Traffic Policing seeking career progression in traffic or metropolitan law enforcement.
• Current law enforcement professionals wishing to enhance their qualifications and position themselves for supervisory or leadership roles.

Minimum – 1 year of study

Maximum – 3 years of study

Students can potentially pursue a career in:

• Traffic or Metropolitan Police Department
• Provincial Traffic Department
• Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC)
• South African Police Service
• Transport Industry

Upon successful completion of your qualification, you will receive a certificate depicting: Advanced Diploma in Traffic and Metropolitan Policing and an academic transcript. These documents will be issued at a graduation ceremony provided that your account is in order.

NB: Certificates cannot be issued to the students before a graduation ceremony.

The minimum requirements for admission into the Advanced Diploma in Traffic and Metropolitan Policing is:

• A Diploma in Metropolitan and Traffic Policing or a cognate diploma at NQF Level 6. This diploma must include relevant modules in the fields of traffic policing, metropolitan policing, or related law enforcement disciplines.
• An international qualification of appropriate equivalence as determined by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). For all international qualifications, a SAQA Evaluation Certificate and detailed syllabus.
